Mind into Reality, BCI Connects the Future | Medlander Wins Three Awards at the 2026 Global Brain-Computer Interface Healthcare Security Innovation Scenarios Contest
2026-09-25

On the morning of September 23, the 2026 Global Brain-Computer Interface Healthcare Security Innovation Scenarios Contest, jointly hosted by the National Healthcare Security Administration and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, successfully concluded in Hangzhou. Liu Jie, Deputy Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Zhejiang Province, and Zhang Ke, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the National Healthcare Security Administration, presented awards to the first-prize winning teams.

Medlander Medical Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Medlander”), together with its partner hospitals, entered three projects in the competition — all three advanced to the finals and won awards: one First Prize, one Second Prize, and one Third Prize.

China’s first national-level competition focusing on “Brain-Computer Interface + Medical Insurance”

With the theme “Mind into Reality, BCI Connects the Future,” the competition is China's first national-level event focusing on the application of brain-computer interface (BCI) and medical insurance innovation scenarios. It aims to drive BCI technology from the laboratory to clinical practice, and from technological breakthroughs to public welfare applications. Since its launch, the competition has attracted 415 teams from around the world. After the preliminary rounds, 251 projects advanced to the finals. The finals were held in Hangzhou on September 21–22, producing 19 First Prizes, 36 Second Prizes, and 52 Third Prizes.

First Prize: Making Magnetic Stimulation “Keep Up” with Brainwave Rhythms

Our project, “Real-Time EEG Phase-Locked TMS Closed-Loop Brain-Computer Interface System for Precise Treatment of Depression,” jointly entered by Medlander and Wenzhou Seventh People’s Hospital, won First Prize with the highest score among all finalist teams.

To address the problems of traditional rTMS — fixed frequency and intensity, inability to adjust to individual patients, and half of the stimulation being delivered “blindly” — the system triggers TMS pulses through real-time EEG phase prediction, forming a "phase closed loop"; adjusts intensity based on instantaneous alpha power, forming an “intensity closed loop”; and uses the patient’s individual alpha peak frequency (IAF) as the stimulation frequency, achieving precise matching. fNIRS synchronously monitors prefrontal blood oxygen changes, providing cross-validation at the metabolic level.

Second Prize: Bringing Brain-Computer Interface Closed-Loop into Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation

The Second Prize-winning project, “Dual-Pathway Brain-Computer Interface Pelvic Floor Electrical Stimulation Closed-Loop Rehabilitation System for Hypertonic Chronic Pelvic Pain,” was jointly entered by Medlander and Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, bringing brain-computer interface technology into the pelvic floor rehabilitation setting. By combining Medlander’s domestically pioneered pelvic floor motor imagery paradigm with pelvic floor electrical stimulation, the project explores a closed-loop rehabilitation pathway for chronic pelvic pain. This also represents Medlander’s first implementation of brain-computer interface technology to advance pelvic floor motor control on its main pelvic floor rehabilitation track.

Third Prize: Making Brain State the Trigger for Intervention

The Third Prize-winning project, “Non-Invasive Brain-Computer Interface — Central-Peripheral Hand Function Rehabilitation System Based on Real-Time Brain State Triggering,” was led by Ruishide, a subsidiary of Medlander, and jointly entered with Zhongda Hospital Affiliated to Southeast University.

The system uses lightweight prefrontal dual-channel (Fp1/Fp2) EEG acquisition, with the Theta/Beta ratio (TBR) as the gating indicator. When TBR falls below the individualized threshold, it triggers transcranial magnetic stimulation, a soft robotic glove, and functional electrical stimulation within milliseconds, completing closed-loop neural reconstruction of “brain region activation — motor output — sensory input — central integration.”

Three Awards, One Shared Technical Focus

The three award-winning projects jointly completed by Medlander and clinical teams cover precision treatment of depression, pelvic floor rehabilitation, and post-stroke hand function rehabilitation, all sharing the common foundation of “BCI + closed-loop neuromodulation.” Brain-computer interface is Medlander’s ongoing technical focus around “brain state decoding — neuromodulation — closed-loop rehabilitation.”

This competition serves as a window for the National Healthcare Security Administration to understand the real-world clinical implementation of brain-computer interfaces. The organizers have stated they will accelerate medical insurance access and value assessment. Medlander’s three projects winning awards simultaneously, covering multiple application areas, reflects national-level authoritative recognition. Combined with policy signals, there is broad expectation that the medical insurance rollout for BCI-related billing items will accelerate.
